We Want YOU In The TARN Community!

~June 13th, 2009~

**Update:  The Opaline absinthe review is now published!  Read the review HERE.**

It took about two years, but the "Network" aspect is finally up and running!  TARN readers can now submit their own reviews and discuss absinthe to their heart's delight in the forums.  There is already a reserve of early-submitted user reviews from the Myspace absinthe forum that you will see showing up in the next couple of days.  In general, you can expect to see a submitted review published within 1-3 days.  User review links will be on the same page as the editor reviews.  The forums are newcomer-friendly, so we encourage you to join in the conversation!

And regarding the Opaline review, I was going through the final editing last night when it struck me that I also had the Limited version!  Unfortunately, I was already getting a little tipsy by 1 AM, and try as I might louching up glasses of each, the booze got the best of me.  I literally woke up this morning with a glass of absinthe in my hand.  Nice way to wake-up, though.  Anyway, give me another evening to properly evaluate.

An April to Remember: 1st Annual "Absinthe In April" Post-Report

~May 29th, 2009~

**Updated 05/29: Technical difficulties with our web-authoring program cause it to freeze-up when text-wrap is used (which is obviously needed for the post-report).  I will be re-installing the program and tinkering with it until I can find a way to get it to work, so watch this space for the article soon**

April was a hell of a month.  The technical notice above explains why the event report is not up just yet, but keep an eye out for it.  The photo above is myself and my good friend Chris from Spirits Review.  You really couldn't find a nicer fellow than him, and his wife is equally charming.  Meeting Chris, several WS members, and many absinthe producers made this truly a night to be remembered.  Of course, there were speed bumps along the way, and that's a lot of what you'll be hearing about in the report, so stay tuned, folks.  In the meantime, please take this as a consolation prize.

Two new reviews this time around; one is Trillium, produced in the US, and the other is the much more familiar, Verte de Fougerolles absinthe.  Find out which one ends up in the morgue after a verbal beat down!

In other absinthe news, Lucid Absinthe has released 375 ml size bottles of Lucid.  I have not heard of a price point just yet, but this is certainly a major step forward in making absinthe more attractive to newcomers.  It should also be noted that the recently launched Corsair Red Absinthe is sold in 375 ml as the standard size.

Also, The Real Absinthe Blog has just released an eye-opening look at absinthe surveys and Top 10 evaluations from the last few months, breaking down each analysis/evaluation, pointing out correlations, and generally making a lot of sense.  TRAB also publishes the annual Year in Review breakdown and predictions (many of which have played out exactly as foretold!), and has a complete list of the available absinthes in the US.  Give this latest article a read, and if you haven't already, bookmark them!  Keep in mind this article must have been a monumental amount of work to complete, so leave them a comment to show your appreciation.  Also, perhaps I've just noticed this, but according to Google, The Real Absinthe Blog is the #1 most visited absinthe blog in the US.  Congrats to TRAB!

Here Comes a New Challenger!

~April 24th, 2009~

This week TARN introduces its very first one-on-one: an exclusive interview with Cheryl Lins, the founder of America's newest absinthe distillery, Delaware Phoenix

For anyone not video game savvy, "Here comes a new challenger!" was a phrase that appeared in the arcade classic Street Fighter II when a new player entered the game.  I couldn't think of a better time to use such a headline!  Watch out Le Tourment Vert, Delaware Phoenix is coming to beat your sales figures into the ground!

The latest batch of photos added to the Absinthe Gallery has a very special submission this time around.  An "HG" (bootleg) brand by the name of Verte de Tanacetum.  VdT is one of the best known HGs, and has garnered praise from absintheurs from countries all over the world.  We're proud to have some rare photos of its great louching action in the absinthe gallery!

Also of note is the shortest review ever, La Fee Bohemian.  Am I so disgusted I'd rather not elaborate, or simply left speechless by it's quality?  Give it a read and find out, it won't take long.

By the way, you can now follow us on Twitter.  If you're a registered member, shoot us a message.  Though even without an account, you can still view the up-to-the-minute updates as well-bookmark it!

NEXT MONTH: Two New US reviews and the DUNY "Absinthe in April" Post-Report!
